David is responsible for management of EBCRC in terms of research and development, education, contract administration, commercialisation and general operations. He successfully led the bid for the new CRC in environmental biotechnology to secure $19.5m of Commonwealth funding for 7 years.

He was the Executive Director of the CRC for Waste Management & Pollution Control Ltd from 1996. Prior to joining the CRC he worked in industry and Government as well as academia. He has extensive management, technical and policy experience in terms of resource development and resource management in all aspects of pollution management.

He is the Chair of one Australian publicly listed company specialising in environmental technologies, and the President of the International Water Association.

As the Executive Director, he plays a key role in managing EBCRC to ensure that it meets its agreed performance under the Commonwealth Agreement Australia as well as meeting members' aspirations.

Brenton is an experienced Business Development Manager with a history of successfully establishing and managing new businesses in the biotechnology, engineering and medical sectors.

As the Business Development Manager Brenton is involved in assessment of intellectual property outcomes of EBCRC, planning and implementing the commercialisation strategies for that intellectual property and developing and maintain relationships with the researchers, industry sponsors, investors and external commercial users of that technology.

Prior to joining EBCRC Brenton was Business Development Manager within the New Ventures Unit at the University of Sydney and responsible for the creation of spin-out companies based on university discoveries. Brenton has previously operated his own consulting business, been involved in both agricultural and medical research and continues to mentor individuals and companies attempting to commercialise their inventions.

Brenton has traveled widely and has networks of contacts across many industries and countries that can assist in the commercialisation of research outcomes, the building of new businesses and the facilitation of deals.

Michaela has a Master’s Degree in social sciences specialising in communication and sociology and a diploma in business marketing. Recently she has been the Manager - Public Relations and Promotions for the Western Plains Zoo. She has also had experience in public relations consulting and working in public and media relations for the NSW Health Complaints Commission.

She has a strong interest in science and science communication. One of her research projects in Finland for the University of Helsinki, Department of Communication, funded by the Finnish Academy, was called ‘The Power of the Gene’.

Michaela is of Finnish origin. She speaks Swedish and German as well as Finnish and English.
